RE: Editing Your Sig.

At the time in question, I was using the Woodall's portal. I couldn't access the signature change in 'My Preferences' as usual. However, I could access it through 'My Profile' tab. Thus, my suggestion.
The forum has been squirrely lately. I've had intermittent problems accessing the forums through all the portals. So, I just chalked up to a glitch, which isn't very uncommon here.
My apologies. Didn't mean to mislead. Just saw a time sensitive backdoor opportunity and passed it along.:)

Park behind a SuperCenter, preferably on the leeward side. Worked for me while dodging 4 canes in Florida several years ago.

RE: leave the propane on?

My camper is in perpetual motion all year. The tanks are always on except while refueling. The fridge is turned off occasionally to defrost.

Probably the BEST customer service after the sale that I have had the pleasure to experience in the past 20 years.

RE: Where can I order a new heated mattress?

If you can't find the mattress you're looking for, a mattress pad warmer might be a consideration. I do a lot of winter dry camping and have a 12v queen model. I found the best price at Backwoods Solar

RE: Yet Another GPS Thread

Agreed... the 2610 was an expensive item when it was introduced. The first of anything always is. After 4 years of use, I recently replaced mine with another Garmin, a Street Pilot C-550.
Still has the same alphabetic and numerical touch screen. Algorithms still a little squirrely. Obviously, today's maps are more accurate than North American City Navigator V.5.
It has features I don't need and a few I liked, ie, Bluetooth for cell phone (barely adequate), TTS with street names (I get a chuckle at the enunciation butchery), and the newer high sensitivity receiver (a tremendous improvement). Plus, it accepts POI's and costs about 1/3 of what we paid for the 2610.
Seems that GPS is similar to Computers, in that today's newest feature becomes next week's entry level. I've been buying laptops for years keying on the changes every few years and going with a mid-line.

RE: I 77

Been through there a couple of times over the past few years. My travels usually take me I-77 to Hwy 19 to I-79. I don't recall any problems with the I-77 route up through Ohio and I did enjoy Salt Fork SP.

RE: What to Do About Going to Florida and Winterizing!!!!

Staying in motels on the way down might be a consideration. Or, you can "rough" it and dry camp along the way. You can use bottled water and flush with windshield wiper fluid or RV anti-freeze until you reach the Carolinas. There, you'll find open campgrounds to overnight and de-winterize.
You'll still be 8 hours or so from N. Fl and subject to possible freezing temps at night. But daytime temps should get above 32°F. If not, just set the furnace to 55° while driving further south. :B

RE: Best camping season is just around the corner

So true. I work from my Lance, subsequently travel and camp year 'round. The schedule isn't conducive to reservations which makes getting a site from Memorial/Labor Day a serious challenge. After that, it's a breeze.

I've seen many campers of all sizes on Hwy 6. You just can't be in a hurry. It'll take you through the heart of the Allegheny.

RE: feather bed for a mattress topper?

I've got a Sealy residential queen in my camper. An inner-spring, it's too firm for me. I put 2" of memory foam on it, plus a 2" down pillow topper on top of that. A thick mattress pad and 400 thread count, 100% Egyptian cotton sheets make it quite comfy.... for me. YMMV

RE: Campground near I-85 in NC

Oak Hollow Family Campground, High Point, NC city park. Not far from I-85, reasonably priced with paved sites, W/E/S, cable and pool.
Ebenezer Park, York County park. About 16 miles south of I-85 off I-77 in Rock Hill, SC. First come... first served, but a real gem.

RE: How Many nights or weekends............

So far this year, I've got about 142 nights. Mostly in State, C.O.E., County and Passport America parks with some boondocking and dry camping mixed in. But... I work out of mine. Sure beats a motel.:B

RE: Winter camping Northern states

I don't find (m)any CG's open in my travels in NY, Ohio, PA, or WV during the winter. I don't think Chicago will be much different.
Having access to shore power really helps. Dry camping requires a lot of generator use to keep up the batteries.
Access to potable water can be challenging. Water at the gas islands are turned off. You'll generally need to refill from an indoor spigot. The service bay at Wally World has been a good source for me.
Your propane bill will look like the National debt.
Condensation is a serious issue. Vent well when cooking and showering in the RV. Crack a vent or windows while sleeping.
Good luck and God bless.
On Edit: A 12v mattress pad warmer will be the best mod you ever made. Check Backwoods Solar for good pricing.

RE: Refrigerator operation while driving

Depends... some fridges run on all three modes, propane, AC, and DC. An "auto" mode will detect the most efficient source. The DC mode on mine is the least efficient. The truck's alternator can't quite keep up. Subsequently, I'm starting in a hole when I stop to boondock. And heaven forbid, I stop for any length of time while in the DC mode and I forget to switch it over to gas. Needless to say, I don't use DC mode unless I have no shore power or am out of propane.

RE: winter camping question

If the plumbing is enclosed, just run the furnace at night. You can open cabinet doors to allow for warm air circulation around the pipes. Disconnect from the water pipe stand and run off the onboard water tank. Drain the FW hose and stow it away. I'm inclined to do the same thing with the sewer hose as it can freeze and crack.
Cooking, showering, and sleeping create a lot of condensation. Use exhaust fans while engaged in the first two and crack a vent or windows while getting some zzzz's.
You should be fine at those temps with the aforementioned precautions.
